EDI considerations: EDI position on global market
EDI considerations described in the previous posts are not the only points that play the role of stumbling blocks for some companies during EDI integration. Speaking abour EDI in general, we should mention that shifting to EDI means that you will get a total control of your company’s operations and business communication with partners simultaneously. The needed information will always be at your fingertips. Now the supply chain process is visible and controlled – one can trace a “life cycle” of any EDI document easily.
Despite all advantages of EDI, some people still think that they should not spend time on it. Below we make the reasons clear and continue to break myths.
EDI is going to disappear
Sometimes people are arguing that EDI technology will be soon replaced by new ones. However, today EDI growth in the USA and in other parts of the world show that EDI approach is constantly developing. EDI was in business for decades and has already showed its potential. Today EDI technologies are constantly developing, and companies who are now strongly connected to electronic data interchange invest in its further development.
Of course, new formats appear and it may seem they are going to replace EDI. But as it was said above, EDI is now too solid to disappear because of a new solution. Too much time was spent for its global integration, so it will definitely stay with us for decades more.
EDI may be replaced by Internet
Unfortunately, those who think so are mistaken. Internet as powerful instrument has spurred EDI growth making EDI technology more accessible and faster. So we shouldn’t think of Internet as of EDI substitution, we should think of it as an assisting technology for EDI implementation and usage. Internet gives many possibilities and EDI takes them all in full.
