PO4 Segment Explanation

The PO4 segment is used in the 850 Purchase Order and the 856 Advanced Ship Notice as a way to explain how to pack the merchandise.

PO4 – Item Physical Details

PO4 EXPLANATIONS
PO401 X PO414 = CASEPACK (Total number of selling units per carton)

PO401= The number of INNER PACKS
PO414= The number of SELLING UNITS CONTAINED IN AN INNER PACK
Example 1: Carton has no defined inner packs (multiple selling units grouped together)

One carton of 9 selling units
Casepack = 9

The PO4 segment on the EDI 850 Purchase Order would be:
PO4*9
The PO4 segment on the EDI 856 Ship Notice Manifest would be:
PO4*9 OR PO4*1*************9 (indicating carton contains 1 inner pack of 9)
Example 2: Carton has defined inner packs.

A master casepack of 36 units, which contains 4 inner packs with 9 selling units per
inner pack.
Inner Packs = 4
Selling Units = 9

The PO4 segment on the EDI 850 Purchase order would be:
PO4*4*************9 (indicating 4 inner packs, each containing 9 selling units)

The PO4 segment on the EDI 856 Ship Notice Manifest would be:
PO4*4*************9
Authorized random weight vendors standard pack structure where each pallet is labeled
with a ucc-128 label and an interleaved 2 of 5 (scc-14) is on every carton. Pack level
carton barcodes are sent on the 856 reporting to the tare level ucc-128 making them
unique to the parent shipment.
