GESMES EDIFACT Document (Generic Statical Message)

GESMES EDIFACT GESMES EDIFACT message helps to download exchange rate onto the EDI gateway where it is constructed into the UN/EDIFACT standard and transmitted to agents. Exchange Rates are received daily from the SARB (Reserve Bank of South Africa) which are then uploaded into the relevant SARS system. These rates used to be printed out by Customs and faxed to Agents from where it had to be re-captured into their internal applications. With the implementation of the GESMES message the rates are downloaded from the SARS system onto the EDI Gateway where it is constructed into the UN/EDIFACT standard and transmitted to Agents. This enables Agents to receive the information electronically into their internal system from where the rates can be updated automatically, relieving internal personnel of this tedious capturing and checking effort. A CONTRL message must be sent to SARS on receipt of this message.
