How to stay active at work and replenish energy in your free time?
Work-life balance is a kind of state of equilibrium that helps us to prioritize career demands and personal life. Often, increased responsibilities at work cause overtime and extend working day, and usually cut-off time spent for personal needs and family.
How to do everything and not forget something important? How to succeed at work and stay a caring family member? How to cut out time for your own between work and family? Where to find inspiration and motivation?
We gathered some pieces of advice. Maybe, they will not work right now. However, this will help you to analyze your time, your needs and priorities. And find your own work-life balance though.
- “Yes” and “No” power. In these latter days we were insistently taught to say “No”. However, does anyone said to whom and when we should say this? We say “No” to ourselves, our close and beloved people more often than to our bosses and colleagues. It’s not convenient to refuse boss’s request, and family will understand – this is my work. Redefine your attitude to your close people – maybe they deserve much more than your work? Yes. Maybe time spent with them worth more than your overtime fee? Yes, definitely.
- Stay productive at work. Revise where you waste your time being at work. Social media, too many coffee breaks, too often ping-pong matches with colleagues, searching time-taking resources. Instead of this, concentrate, work hard and go home in time.
- Set boundaries. When being at home, on holidays and after work switch-off your “working mode”. It’s OK, really. If your position does not require being available 24/7, then separate your working hours and your free time. Answer working calls being at home in the evening? Be ready to become “twenty-four hours available”. It is always your choice and others should respect it.
- Replenish your energy. Fill in your days off with pleasant things – long breakfast with family, walking, reading, visiting interesting places, meeting with friends, doing sports or just laying on the sofa doing nothing (that’s also okay). Do things you like – that will replenish your energy and inspire for work progress.
- Forget about perfectionism. Nobody is perfect and we cannot do all the work in the world. Be honest with yourself. If something goes wrong, forget about it till tomorrow. Evaluate your potential and resources adequate – this will prevent emotional burnout.
Meditation and sports will be a good addition to the above-mentioned points. Relax or fill in your body and mind with energy. Your physical, emotional and mental health should be your main concern.
